- Alternatively – used to show that you have a different option.
- Constitutional right – a right that is stated in the constitution of Ireland.
- Divisional officer – the officer that deals with your area.
- Encourage – to promote
- Enforce (a law) – to make sure that law and rules are being applied to everyone.
- Equal priority - given the same amount of importance.
- Facilitate – to help or assist.
- Guilty (of a crime) – the opposite of innocent; to have broken a law
- Jurisdiction – the power to judge a crime and to apply laws
- Legal representation – a lawyer.
- Minor – not very bad or severe.
- Observing – watching.
- Offence – a crime.
- Prevention – to stop something from happening.
- Proceedings (of court) – the process of a court case.
- Prosecution - the lawyers acting for the state to put the case against the defendant.
- Recognised as – acknowledged as, officially called.
- Seeking compensation – to look for something (such as money) because of an offense against you.
- Solicitors - a lawyer who gives legal advice and prepares legal documents.
- (the) Suspect - the person being sued or accused of a crime.
- Suspicious activities – something strange or unusual that is happening.
- Trial – when the suspect goes to court.

- Witness – a witness is someone who sees an event and reports what happened
