TV licence
It is against the law not to have a TV licence if you have a TV or equipment capable of receiving a television signal, even if it is broken. If you don’t have a TV license you can be prosecuted and may have to pay a fine of up to €1,000. Television licences are sold in your local post office and they cost €160 a year. You can pay for it yearly by cash or cheque; monthly through direct debit or Mastercard and some post offices accept credit cards as well. You can also pay by phone at: 1890 228 528, 24 hours a day seven days a week; or online at www.tvlicence.ie. Some people can get a TV license for free. Visit www.citizensinformation.ie and search for Television Licenses and Household Benefits Package to find out more information about the rules and benefits regarding TV licences.
